My Fight with Migraine

After two years continuing allopathic medication which was nothing but hard pain-killers, i came close to my best friend Mr. P.N.Dubey who worked hard to get me rid of my migraine through yoga, pranayam & morning walk.

Migraine (one side severe headache) was initially accompanied by nausea, excess saliva & excess sweating. My life had been disturbed.I was unable to do my daily activities as well as office work.Doctor first thought that it might be sinus problem so they treated me like that. But after seeing no improvement, they send me for X-ray and found no problem in sinus. After that they started proper treatment including strong pain killer (diclofenac sodium). The medication didn't give me any relief except they removed accompanied problems.

I started to note down time & duration of every attack of migraine.I found that some factors was responsible to increase the
intensity & frequency of migraine. Those was
1.Empty Stomach (due to missing meal/late breakfast)
2.Sudden Temperature change (happened whenever i switch between air conditioned room and sunny area.To avoid it I rest in some shadowy area before switching)
3.Stress & Negative thinking
4.Dusty area
4.Lack of ventilation (especially in crowded bus)
5.Lazy lifestyle
6.No exercise/yoga
7.Cold or Blocking of Nasal passage
( I always kept some balm (vicks) with me,whenever i felt that blocking of my nasal passage is going to start, i just used to apply it on my nose.)

When I started Yoga with my friend,i started to feel comfortable and less number of attacks occurred. After some days i got rid of all pains.I continued yoga & pranayam. In my case before doing yoga, if attack started, it lasted for at least 1 hr or max 2 hr with severe pain. And this situation continued for 30 to 45 days. After that migraine disappeared automatically and came back after 6-7 month and then again continued for 30-45 days. After continuing yoga this scenario had been changed and i had been not feel any attack since long .(But then when i left all these things for a long period, i again become the victim. So a healthy life-style with yoga/excercises is very necessary to avoid it forever.)

Yoga & ExercisesI did for my migraine was following(I never did at time of pain since then it increases intensity):

1.Shirshasan (Head stand): this was difficult to do alone, since it is the reverse pose: head down, leg up.My friend always helped me for this asan. This asan alone gave me much relax. If i missed it any day, i feel throughout day that i should do it.

2.Sarvangasan : this is the modified form of shirshasan.

3.Veerasan etc : After doing above two asans i used to go for morning walk up to a field where i do veerasana, trikonasana, pavanmukatasan, bhujangasan and simple stretching excercises.

4. Pranayam:Then i used to do kapalaphati, anulom-vilom, bhramik pranayam in padamasan pose.

5.Run : After it i used to get relaxed for a while and do a small run around the field and then returned home. And I always felt more energetic & active throughout whole day.

Nowadays, due to busy schedule i left all these long routine and do only pranayams.
